Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 Priced at PKR 16,999 Exclusively Launches on

Prebooking starts on 20th February 6.00 PM at a special price of PKR 14,999

Pakistan, 20th February 2017 — Global technology leader Xiaomi is bringing its full screen display innovations to the low range smartphone category with the release of Redmi 5 exclusively on

redmi 5 plus

With beautifully designed 18:9 HD+ screens with rounded display corners, this model is powered by Snapdragon 450, Octa-core processors. Sporting large pixel (1.25μm) sensors for the main camera, front Selfie-light, as well as long-lasting batteries. Pre-booking for this beauty begins on Tuesday, 20th February at a special price of PKR 14,999

18:9 display with rounded corners

With a 5.7-inch 18:9 HD+ display that takes up almost the entire front surface, Redmi 5 provides a much larger viewing area compared with traditional 16:9 screen displays. This gives a better user experience whether users are reading news, editing spreadsheets, or playing games on a smartphone.

In addition, Redmi 5 has a screen with rounded display corners and is designed with close attention to symmetry, delivering a stunning appearance. It also features a four-sided curved design that gives users amazing hand-feel.

Large 1.25μm pixels and front LED Selfie-light for natural, well-exposed photos

Redmi 5 comes with rear cameras sporting large 1.25μm-pixel sensors. The larger the pixels, the more light a sensor can capture, giving better image quality even in situations when lighting conditions are not perfect.

The front Selfie-light on the Redmi 5 allows users to capture beautiful selfies even in low-light conditions. With an always-on mode, this also works when shooting videos. Combined with Xiaomi’s Beautify 3.0, Redmi 5 delivers flattering and natural selfies.

Long battery life and MIUI 9 enhancements

Battery life is one of the most important features on the Redmi series, and Redmi 5 continues this tradition with a built-in 3300 mAh battery.

Flagship-level testing standards

Xiaomi’s Redmi series is widely recognized for high quality, a result of various factors including the use of best-in-class suppliers, and extremely stringent reliability tests comparable to those used for flagship devices.

One example of Xiaomi’s dedication to introducing the highest quality features on all its devices is a design tailored to buffer the impact of any fall in the new Redmi 5 smartphones. With a reinforced structure, the likelihood of a broken screen is reduced in cases when a user drops the smartphone, landing corner first.  Furthermore, enhancements to the earpiece, including an additional waterproof layer, help protect the Redmi 5 from sweat and dust, reducing the likelihood of the call volume dropping over time.

The Redmi 5 (2GB+16 GB) is available in three colours; Gold, Black and Blue. The exclusive price for pre-booking starts at PKR 14,999 starting 20th February. The Redmi 5 (3GB+32GB) will be launching in the near future.

A limited stock of the Redmi 5 will be available on the discounted price during the flash sale on 25th February from 6 PM to 10 PM on the Mi Store. But if you want to get your hands on this beauty for sure, head over to now to pre-book yours!

Watching The Blood Moon at Bay View Academy Karachi

I was so excited to see the first Total Lunar Eclipse of 2018 in Karachi as it was the rarest event happening after 150 years. Due to the combination of three lunar phenomena: a super moon, a blue moon and a blood moon at the same time since 1866.

Being a member of ‘Karachi Astronomers Society‘ I asked Mr. Zain who is also co-founder of  (KAS) if there is any happening event in Karachi where I can see the Lunar Eclipse with telescope, he told that he is conducting a Moon sighting event at Bay View Academy.

I reached the school at 6.29pm as the eclipse reached its peak at 6:31pm but it was near the horizon but after few mins. of searching the sky Mr. Zain finally spotted the Blood Moon.

Sky-Watcher 90/900 AZ3 Refractor Telescope

All of a sudden kids gathered around Mr. Zain and asked that they also want to see the Lunar Eclipse so the teacher asked them to make a queue and they saw the Total Lunar Eclipse for the first time with telescope. Here we have not one but three telescopes with different magnification.

  • Sky-Watcher 90/900 AZ3 Refractor Telescope
  • Sky-Watcher 6″ f/8 Traditional Dobsonian Telescope
  • Sky-Watcher 8″ Collapsible Dobsonian Telescope

skywatcher telescopes

After half an hour Mr. Zain gave the tour of the night sky, told them about the brightest star in the night sky ‘Sirius’ in Canis Majoris  constellation followed by Orion constellation and Oroin Nebula (one of the brightest nebulae, and is visible to the naked eye).

Kids asked some questions about the night sky like, “can we see The Milky Way ?”, “can you point out the Jupiter?”.  It’s too hard to see the Milky Way in Urban City due to light pollution and Jupiter is under your feet (below the horizon).

Lunar Eclipse with telescope

It was so much fun interacting with these kids and answering their questions about the Moon and the night sky. Few of them were screaming after seeing the Moon details in the telescope. For me it was such a memorable event watching the Total Lunar Eclipse in Sky-Watcher 8″ Collapsible Dobsonian Telescope.

Sicilian Pizza Recipe

I was bit bored with eating the usual shaped pizza, so last night I tried ‘Sicilian Pizza’. It came out quite delicious. Sharing the recipe which is enough for 8 people and it was ready in 45mins.
Sicilian Pizza

Sicilian Pizza in the oven

  • 2 packages (4-1/2 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1 tablespoon garlic salt
  • ½ cup olive oil, divided
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 40-45 pepperonis
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
sicilian pizza slice
  1. Coat an 18×13-inch sheet pan with ¼ cup olive oil and set aside.
  2. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the yeast and sugar with the warm water. Allow to proof about 10 minutes.
  3. Add the flour and garlic salt and mix on low speed for a few minutes before slowly adding the remaining ¼ cup of olive oil. Mix until a smooth ball starts to form, about 5 minutes.
  4. Press dough evenly onto the bottom and up the sides of the prepared sheet pan. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 450°F. Once dough has risen to almost double in height, flatten the bottom and press the dough up the sides of the pan with your hands..
  6. Spread pizza sauce evenly over dough. Sprinkle sauce evenly with half the cheese and then all the pepperoni. Sprinkle pepperoni evenly with remaining cheese and then sprinkle the whole pizza.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the crust starts to brown and the cheese starts to bubble. Let set 5-10 minutes before cutting and serving.

ReelOnHai by Pakistan Cables

In mid 2016 Pakistan Cables came up with the best idea to recycle their Cable Reels. Pakistan Cables and Karachi Biennale Trust signed an MoU earlier in July 2016 to collaborate on a public outreach project, Reel on Hai. Through the “Reel on Hai” project, the Public Outreach Committee of the Karachi Biennale invited artists, designers and architects to transform the empty cable reels provided by Pakistan Cables, the main activity partner, into pieces of art.

This mega project that has brought together not only the artists working on the artworks but also the stakeholders in every area, be it the city government, people from ethnic and religious minorities, bureaucrats, school and college students and teachers, industrialists, doctors and hospital staff. People from all walks of life have connected with this project at different levels.

The  cable reels provided by Pakistan Cables have been placed at public spaces in the city such as the St. Patricks Cathedral, Beach Luxury Hotel, KMC Sports Complex, Zamzama Park, Orangi Pilot Project, Jinnah Hospital, Safari Park, Indus Valley School of art and architecture, Customs House, Alliance Francaise Greenwich University, Institute of Business Administration, Karachi Zoo, DA College for Women, Karachi Central Jail, Moin Khan Academy, Piler, The national Museum, The Civilizations School, Hill park and The Absa School.

On December 13, 2017, Pakistan Cables Limited announced the launch of a coffee table book, ‘A Reel On Karachi – Art Installations in the City’ at the Alliance Francoise de Karachi in an event which was widely attended by members of the business, art and social communities.

The launch event included a stimulating panel discussion hosted by renowned Karachi based actor, Mr. Sajid Hasan who engaged with the panelists recollecting Karachi’s evolving history and the impact of Reel on Hai to the city’s landscape. Panelists included Ms. Marjorie Hussain (Art Critic), Mr. Arif Hasan (Urban Planner and Activist), Mr. Mohsin Sayeed (Public Outreach Committee and Journalist) and Ms. Masuma Khawaja Halai (Chair, Public Outreach Committee).

“This book captures the story behind the project and takes its readers on a journey through Karachi brilliantly!”, stated Ms. Halai.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Fahd K. Chinoy, Executive Director, Pakistan Cables Limited who commended the Karachi Biennale Trust for setting up an exemplary partnership based on a shared purpose of honoring community trust and of giving back beauty to Karachi.
