ReelOnHai by Pakistan Cables

In mid 2016 Pakistan Cables came up with the best idea to recycle their Cable Reels. Pakistan Cables and Karachi Biennale Trust signed an MoU earlier in July 2016 to collaborate on a public outreach project, Reel on Hai. Through the “Reel on Hai” project, the Public Outreach Committee of the Karachi Biennale invited artists, designers and architects to transform the empty cable reels provided by Pakistan Cables, the main activity partner, into pieces of art.


This mega project that has brought together not only the artists working on the artworks but also the stakeholders in every area, be it the city government, people from ethnic and religious minorities, bureaucrats, school and college students and teachers, industrialists, doctors and hospital staff. People from all walks of life have connected with this project at different levels.


The  cable reels provided by Pakistan Cables have been placed at public spaces in the city such as the St. Patricks Cathedral, Beach Luxury Hotel, KMC Sports Complex, Zamzama Park, Orangi Pilot Project, Jinnah Hospital, Safari Park, Indus Valley School of art and architecture, Customs House, Alliance Francaise Greenwich University, Institute of Business Administration, Karachi Zoo, DA College for Women, Karachi Central Jail, Moin Khan Academy, Piler, The national Museum, The Civilizations School, Hill park and The Absa School.


On December 13, 2017, Pakistan Cables Limited announced the launch of a coffee table book, ‘A Reel On Karachi – Art Installations in the City’ at the Alliance Francoise de Karachi in an event which was widely attended by members of the business, art and social communities.


The launch event included a stimulating panel discussion hosted by renowned Karachi based actor, Mr. Sajid Hasan who engaged with the panelists recollecting Karachi’s evolving history and the impact of Reel on Hai to the city’s landscape. Panelists included Ms. Marjorie Hussain (Art Critic), Mr. Arif Hasan (Urban Planner and Activist), Mr. Mohsin Sayeed (Public Outreach Committee and Journalist) and Ms. Masuma Khawaja Halai (Chair, Public Outreach Committee).


“This book captures the story behind the project and takes its readers on a journey through Karachi brilliantly!”, stated Ms. Halai.

Peek Freans Sooper has officially broken the Guinness World Record

On 14th August, 2017 Peek Freans Sooper has officially broken the Guinness World Records title for the Largest Cookie Mosaic in the shape of Pakistan’s flag made with 150,000+ cookies measuring 226.51 m2  (2,438.15 ft2).

It was made possible with the efforts and continuous hard work of less than 7 hours, 200 employees and a bunch of celebrities, the record was successfully broken and Pakistan has earned the title of Guinness World Records of making largest cookie mosaic.
