Looking back on New Year Resolutions – How far have you come?

Guest Post by Umana Khan

As we enter the second quarter of 2017, it seems like an appropriate time to reflect on how far we’ve come on our over ambition New Year resolutions filled with hope and determination (well…at least when we first made them).

Most resolutions are usually directed towards bringing about some sort of mental, behavioral or lifestyle change. If you fall into the average fraction of the human population your New Year resolution was probably aimed at losing extra weight, eating healthier, learning a new hobby, socializing more with friends and family, becoming more religious, doing something you’ve never done before or quitting an awful habit of drinking or smoking.

But if you’re anything like the average person, you probably must have already forgotten everything about your resolution and the state of mind you made it with.

Don’t worry guys, even if you’ve made no progress whatsoever in the past 3 months it’s still not too late. Below are super handy tips and tricks paired, with genuine advice to help you get re-motivated to take the correct steps towards your set goal.

Goal #1 – I Need to Lose Weight this Year

Tip No. 1: Be more specific and change in into a short-term goal instead

  • I need to lose 5 Kgs a Month by going to the Gym an hour each day

The most common mistake people make when setting New Year’s resolution is that they state them vaguely with no specific picture in mind. If you’re really determined to make a change in your life then make sure your set goal is tangible and has some sort of visible process that you can work towards.

Goal #2 – I am going to be More Social.

Tip: Again, address the if’s and how’s – How are you going to be more social? What extra effort are you going to make?

Your resolution should sound something like this:

  • I’m going to attend all family gatherings I’m invited too and call my friends Every Saturday

The more specific and clear you are with your idea the more likely you are to implement it. Look at your daily routine and see how you can integrate a lifestyle change in it. You can aim to visit your grandparents once a week, plan random meetups with old batch mates, or just catch up with friends over the phone – Do what works for you!

Goal #3 – Try Something I’ve Never Done Before

Everyone wants their lives to continue to stay exciting and happening, which is why we all promise ourselves that we’ll try something different this year. But my question is how?

Will you learn how to mountain climb? Try Surfing for the first time? Visit the Himalayas or go on a World Tour? How will you break free from your ordinary life and make it extraordinary?

A Word of Advice

Every resolution requires commitment and dedication, without clearly knowing what you want, there’s no way you’re ever going to be able to turn it into a reality.

If you want to travel cheap and explore life from a broader perspective then specify where you want to go, what you want to do, and then determine by when you’re going to make this happen – Trust me, clarity can do wonders for your plans!

New Resolution:

By the August of 2017, I’m going to Book Tickets to See the Eiffel Tower in Paris/the leaning tower of Pisa in Italy/The City of Water – Venice/ The snow covered mountains in Gilgit and Hunza or any other place you want to visit!

The City School (TCS) Pakistan’s largest private school system recently organized the nation’s first ever symposium on Early Years Education, entitled “Thought Leaders”. The symposium convened a platform for renowned experts and influencers to exchange best practices and cutting edge research in designing, developing and managing high performance learning environments for early childhood education. The Symposium drew on a combination of speaker sessions, panel discussions and workshops engaging local stakeholders, early years’ practitioners, schools and parents, to set the future direction for this critical area of education.

In his keynote address, Philip Hallworth, Director Academics, The City School said, “Children only get one chance at childhood – it is both our privilege and our duty, whether as educators or parents, to ensure that they spend their childhood actively learning and not passively doing. Actively learning the knowledge, life skills and values that will be the foundation for their future – and that they must have fun doing so. We should never underestimate the influence we as educators can have on young lives. Child-centric Early Years education develops confident, resilient, sociable and tolerant young people who then grow up to be the responsible adult thought leaders of our future society.”

Social constructivism is an essential strategy in developing 21st century skills in students.” While Rumana Hussain said that “The medium of education should be in a child’s mother tongue at the early years if we want learning to take place.” Khaled Anum believes that “Teaching foreign languages such as English should open doors not build walls.”

The focus of the symposium was on preparing children for the 21st century, which is characterized by great technological advancements. Technology has advanced education and is playing a vital role in personalizing learning, encouraging collaboration, and preparing students for the future. The City School is investing heavily in integrating technology in the classroom, employing innovative teaching and learning methods to ensure that its students are well prepared for the 21st century.
