Independence Day Celebrations at Dolmen Malls

Dolmen Mall, Pakistan’s first international standard mall, is famous for being at the forefront of every major national celebration. With every event, they have continued to raise the bar when it comes to family entertainment and shopping in Karachi.

As our Independence Day approaches, we see the city changing itself to represent the colors of Pakistan, and Dolmen did not stay behind in giving its visitors a flavor of patriotism. This year, their theme, ‘Dolmen loves Pakistan’, was weaved around the concept of #HamariPehchan aimed at giving people a chance to celebrate Pakistan’s identity. Spanning across all three malls, namely Dolmen Mall Clifton, Dolman Mall Tariq Road and Dolmen Mall Hyderi, the event kicked off on 12th of August 2016.

“Living in a time where there is so much uncertainty and negativity surrounding our identity as a nation, we wanted to celebrate the achievements and entertainment aspects of Pakistan which we are known for. These things are relatable to the older as well as the younger generation of this country and they need to be celebrated. This is what makes us proud as Pakistanis,” said Anum Nadeem, Marketing Head of the Dolmen Group at the event.

A weekend worth of activities were executed in all its patriotic glamour and glory. For this, the mall was draped in shades of greens and whites. The walkways saw magnificent replicas of the country’s monuments. From live murals of national heroes to specially dressed guards standing and saluting the customers, the entire mall gave off 14th August vibes. The main atrium was designed to take the mall-goers on a photographic journey through Pakistan and its rich culture. Adding to the desi feel, a dhaaba was set up by Chai Wala offering fresh parathas and chai for all those craving for a cup of tea, Pakistan’s undisputed favorite drink. Folk music and a special Azadi Bazaar selling flags, badges, and other patriotic merchandise set the right mood to the three-day event.

Raise the Flag

To mark the eve of Independence Day, a grandiose performance by Sounds of Kolachi dazzled the audience. The soulful music melted into the beautiful notes of our National Anthem at precisely 12 AM, midst a shower of confetti while the guards raised the flag and saluted. The moment was breathtakingly beautiful.

On the same night, visitors at Dolmen Mall Tariq Road were enthralled to find Noori performing live and did not shy away from fully enjoying patriotic beats.

On the digital front, an instagram competition was hosted, allowing amateur photographers to showcase their talent. Top three photographs were selected and awarded with prizes. More prizes awaited all those who visited Dolmen wearing green. Shoppers and visitors were, thus, pleasantly surprised at various occasions.

All about WWIM13KHI Instameet

Every year Instagram announced themes of Worldwide Instameet. This year they select Earth Day as the them for Worldwide Instameet 13 (WWIM13). For the first time I organized not one but two Worldwide Instameets in Karachi and Thatta. First I announced Zamzama Park as the venue for #WWIM13KHI.

But due to Heatwave from 22-24 Apr. in Karachi, I have to postponed it. On 11th April 2016, I received my instameet kit for WWIM13KHI.

As I postponed instameet and rescheduled it to 24th Apr. 2016, management of Zamzama Park didn’t allow me to organized instameet on 24th Apr. as there was some other event going on. So then I decided to change the location to Manora Beach as it perfectly fits with WWIM13 theme.

On the morning of 1st May, 17 people gathered to explore the beauty of Manora Beach. We met at Kemari Harbour at 8.30am and reached Manora Beach via boat at 9.15am, after an introduction I distributed instagram goodies and tasks to all the participants and then I spend some time at the beach.

At WWIM13KHI we tried something different for our group photo. We made boomerang video at Manora Beach.

First Official Instameet Thatta

On 23rd April, 2016 together with Noor Unnahar we organized the FIRST Official Instameet Thatta at Keenjhar Lake. Every year twice Instagram announced themes for Worldwide Instameet. This year’s theme was Earth Day. We planned a road-trip form Karachi to Keenjhar Lake, Thatta to explore the beauty of second largest fresh water lake in Pakistan. As we registered our Instameet, Instagram sends us Instameet Kit for our meetup.

Sunset/Sunrise – #iGraphy

Recently I’ve been introduced to the #iGraphy – photography link up via the Noor Unnahar’s blog at Noor’s Place. So after seeing her recent post, I thought I should give it a try and this week my theme will be Sunset/Sunrise. I just love the sunset/sunrise they are the signs of the beginning and the ending of the day. Clouds play important part during sunset/sunrise cos they add more drama to them. It is such a beautiful display of the nature, the changing color hues, cool breeze and the shifting thin clouds which makes a perfect sunsets/sunrise. So here I’ll be sharing some of my best sunset/sunrise photos captured at different locations. Usually I captured Sunrises during our Astrophotography trips to the interior Sindh or at my friend’s building roof which gives perfect 360 view of the city. The best thing about those Astrophotography trips to the interior Sindh that we can see the sunrise from the horizon which is difficult to find in the urban city.

Exploring the Night Sky

Over the years I have explored so many beautiful objects in the night sky with telescope, binoculars and dslr thanks to my twitter friend Ramiz he was the one who introduced me to the Astronomy. I usually spent my nights on my roof just looking at the stars and try to capture some pictures, If the sky is clear cos sometimes it bit hazy or too much light pollution. Here are some of my best photographs and some of them has been featured on different websites or on their facebook or twitter accounts.

Venus and Mercury Conjunction on 11th Jan. 2015

First one is the Mercury and the Venus conjunction at the beginning of this year. This was the first time I’ve seen Planet Mercury. I’ve seen the path of Mercury and on the 11th Jan. they became close enough so I took an early off from my office just to capture this beautiful picture from my roof.

But when I submitted that picture on Earthsky website and they posted it on their twitter account, it got 21 RTs and 31 favs. and that was my picture featured on any website and I was so excited about this.

After that I captured an ISS (International Space Station) pass in Karachi and I posted it on my instagram from their ISS on instagram liked my picture

And after that they posted it on the album featuring all the photos of the pass from around the world mentioning my instagram handle and the place. This was something huge for me, official account of ISS on facebook has included my photo from instagram. Here is the link
